Algeria ranked 85th in the World Happiness Index out of 143 countries in the UN-sponsored report.
Finland came in first place for the seventh consecutive year, followed by Denmark, Iceland, Sweden, the Netherlands, Norway, Luxembourg, and Switzerland, while Afghanistan came at the bottom of the list.
At the Arab level, Kuwait ranked 13th globally and first in the Arab world, then the UAE ranked 22nd, then Saudi Arabia 28th, Bahrain 62nd, Libya 66th, Algeria 85th, Iraq 92nd, Palestine 103rd, followed by Morocco 107th, Mauritania 111th, Tunisia 115th, Jordan 125th, Egypt 127th, Comoros 132nd, Yemen 133rd, Lebanon 142nd.
In ranking countries, researchers rely on several factors, including GDP per capita, healthy life expectancy, surveys that ask respondents to answer a progressive scale of 1 to 10 on how much social support they feel in the event of a problem, their freedom to make decisions related to their private lives, their sense of corruption in their communities, and how generous they are.
