The Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs denounced Morocco’s “provocations” over the kingdom’s move to confiscate property belonging to the Algerian embassy in Rabat.

“The Kingdom of Morocco has embarked on a new phase of escalation in its provocative and hostile behaviour towards Algeria, similar to the recently recorded project aimed at confiscating the premises of the Algerian state embassy in Morocco,” the ministry said in a statement.

Algeria considered that “the Moroccan project, which is contrary to civilized international practices, seriously infringes on the obligations emanating from the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, which oblige Morocco to respect and protect the embassies present on its territory at all times and under all circumstances.”

The Algerian Foreign Ministry stressed that her country would respond to these provocations by all means it deems appropriate and will resort to all available legal means and means, especially within the framework of the United Nations, in order to ensure respect for its interests.

The Algerian position was issued after reports of a Moroccan project to confiscate real estate belonging to the Algerian embassy in Rabat for the purpose of expanding service buildings belonging to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Algeria severed diplomatic relations with Rabat in August 2021, denouncing a series of “hostile acts” by its neighbor, particularly with regard to Western Sahara.
