The National Meteorological Office in Algeria announced expectations that temperatures will reach record levels of up to 50 degrees Celsius in several states, which requires urgent precautionary measures.
The Bureau warned, based on the weather forecast issued today, Sunday, of a severe heat wave affecting the states of Ouargla and Touggourt, as it is expected to begin at midday today and continue until six in the evening.
Residents of the provinces of Adrar, Timimoun, In Salah, and Bordj Badji Mokhtar also received warnings against temperatures exceeding 49 degrees Celsius, from today, Sunday, until next Tuesday.
Warnings were also issued in the provinces of Adrar, Timimoun, In Salah, Bordj Badji Mokhtar and Ouargla, where high temperatures are expected to continue until Monday.
As for the states of the Oued, Touggourt, Menia and Ghardaia, the office warned of the continuation of high temperatures reaching 49 degrees Celsius until Monday.
The warning also included the states of M’sila, Mughair, Ouled Jalal and Djelfa, where residents must take the necessary precautions to deal with the expected severe weather conditions.
The summer season in Algeria extends from June to September, and is characterized by high temperatures and low humidity, especially in the interior regions. Average summer temperatures range between 25 and 35 degrees Celsius in the coastal regions, while they range between 30 and 40 degrees Celsius in the interior regions. Temperatures can reach 45 degrees.
