Algeria has announced its readiness to submit Libya to the UN Security Council as part of its non-permanent membership, as it seeks to take decisive steps towards a final settlement of the Libyan crisis.

Algeria reiterated its full support for any efforts that contribute to achieving a national solution among Libyans to end the crisis in Libya.

During his meeting with the President of the Libyan Presidential Council, Mohamed Menfi, in Tripoli, Algerian Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf stressed Algeria’s readiness to contribute, through its seat on the Security Council, to defending the interests of Libyans and achieving rapid progress towards a Libyan-Libyan solution that puts a definitive end to the crisis.

Algeria reaffirms its continued support for the process of dialogue and reconciliation in Libya, expresses its categorical rejection of any foreign interference and the need to remove mercenaries from Libya, and encourages the Libyan parties to formulate a framework that enables the holding of elections that restore the legitimacy of the sovereign institutions of the Libyan State.

In a related context, the Algerian Foreign Minister presented a written message from Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune to exile, without revealing its content, and the meeting was an opportunity to review the reality and prospects of Algerian-Libyan relations, security and political developments in the Sahel region, the Palestinian issue, and developments in the besieged Gaza Strip.
