Algeria called for the implementation of a comprehensive national project to achieve national reconciliation in Libya, in which all its people participate to build a democratic state that achieves their legitimate ambitions.
The Algerian delegation confirmed during an interactive dialogue session in Geneva about the report of the High Commissioner for Human Rights that Algeria rejects any external interference in Libyan affairs, whether political or military.
The delegation expressed its full support for the efforts made by the United Nations and the African Union to support stability in Libya, stressing the need to continue providing technical assistance and building the necessary capabilities to protect and promote human rights in the country.
For his part, the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk, expressed his concern about the increasing reports of arbitrary arrests and enforced disappearances in Libya, calling for the necessity of holding those responsible for these violations accountable and strengthening measures to protect human rights.
These statements come at a time when Libya is witnessing continuing security and political challenges, amid increasing international calls to support the political process and achieve national reconciliation.
