The Algerian Minister of Energy, Mohamed Arkab, announced today, Sunday, the signing of an important agreement, soon, between the “Sonatrach” and “Sonelgaz” groups and international partners to implement a marine electric line linking Algeria to Europe.
The minister confirmed that preparations are underway to sign contracts, noting that this historic project will enable Algeria to export traditional electricity generated from natural gas and electricity generated from alternative and renewable sources.
A statement by the Algerian Ministry of Energy explained that the minister received, during his visit to the electrical system management institution, explanations about the details of the work of the national electrical system command center and the quality of its equipment. He pointed out that the center is the brain of the national electrical network and contributes to ensuring the balance of the electrical system by reconciling supply and demand for electrical energy using the latest technologies.
The minister stated that the national electricity production capacity, which is approximately 26 thousand megawatts, covers all national needs during peak and off-peak periods, with Algeria recording new records for the level of demand for electricity amounting to 19,135 megawatts.
The minister confirmed that the companies affiliated with the “Sonelgaz” complex have taken all necessary measures to strengthen electrical production, reorganize the network, and support it with electrical equipment that can withstand extreme heat exceeding 55 degrees Celsius, with the aim of meeting citizens’ electricity needs efficiently.
The Minister indicated that these measures resulted from the large investments made by the Algerian state to support “Sonelgaz” projects, and to benefit from the experience and knowledge gained in the field of production, transmission and distribution of electricity in Algeria.
By implementing this ambitious project, Algeria strengthens its position as an important source of energy in the region and opens new horizons for cooperation with Europe in the field of clean and renewable energy, which contributes to achieving sustainable development and improving the national economy.
