Algeria witnessed on Monday high-level discussions on ways to enhance bilateral cooperation mechanisms with Niger in the fields of infrastructure, trade and industry.
The discussions brought together the Algerian Minister of Public Works and Basic Facilities, Lakhdar Rekhroukh, and the Minister of Trade and Export Promotion, Tayeb Zitouni, with their counterparts from Niger, Salissou Mahaman Salissou, and Saidou Assman, as part of an official visit by a Nigerien delegation headed by the Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance of Niger, Ali Mohamed Lamine Zein.
The discussions addressed ways to enhance bilateral cooperation in the fields of infrastructure, trade and industry, with emphasis on the importance of the Trans-Saharan Road project linking the two countries, as a strategic project to enhance regional economic cooperation.
The Algerian side reviewed its capabilities and expertise in developing basic facilities, stressing Algeria’s readiness to provide support in the field of road construction and maintenance.
On the commercial level, Ministers Zitouni and Assman discussed mechanisms to activate trade relations between the two countries, including organizing economic events and joint exhibitions.
They discussed the free trade zone project between Algeria and Niger, the transportation of goods through Algerian territory, in addition to the gas transport project from Nigeria via Niger and Algeria.
The ministers from both sides affirmed their commitment to developing the bilateral partnership and enhancing cooperation in the fields of infrastructure, trade and industry, which contributes to achieving economic development and deepening the historical relations between the two brotherly countries.
