The testimonies of the victims of the attack that took place in a pharmacy in the Bab Ezzouar neighborhood, east of the Algerian capital, revealed details about the role of the mother in inciting her sons to commit the crime.
The Casablanca court issued an order to temporarily detain four suspects, including the mother, in the incident that began with the publication of video clips showing a group of young men attacking pharmacists with daggers, amid statements from the mother who encouraged her sons to kill by saying, “Kill them and I will bring you the basket.”
The recorded statements and witness testimonies confirmed that the mother was a major factor in motivating her sons to carry out the attack.
The pharmacy owner, who was one of the victims who survived the attack, stated that the mother was asking her sons in a loud voice to kill the pharmacy workers.
In a related context, Algerian security reported that initial investigations revealed the presence of drugs hidden inside the suspects’ residence, which adds complexity to the case.
The prosecution charged the defendants with charges ranging from attempted premeditated murder, establishing a neighborhood gang, and using violence to obtain drugs.
The Public Prosecution stressed that the possible penalties may reach the death penalty, which reflects the seriousness of the case and its significant impact on public security and social peace in Algeria.
It is worth noting that the phenomenon of neighborhood gangs exists in Algeria, especially in some major cities and working-class neighborhoods, where these gangs are often made up of teenagers and young adults, and these gangs work on violent theft, assaulting passers-by, vandalizing public and private property, in addition to drug trafficking.
