Algerian doctors at the Abderrazak Bouhara hospital in Skikda have extracted 20 nails and a set of metal wires from the abdomen of a patient suffering from mental disorders.
The hospital administration said the complex surgery took more than six full hours.
The department confirmed that the doctors were able to remove a large amount of metal nails, estimated at 20 nails, in addition to another set of metal wires that remained stuck in the patient’s small and large intestine.
According to sources of the Algerian newspaper “Al-Shorouk”, the patient’s psychological condition may have prompted him to eat such a large amount of nails and metal wires in stages unconsciously, which led to their stability in his intestines, and caused severe pain that prompted him to visit the doctor.
The X-rays showed the presence of metal objects in the patient’s abdomen, prompting doctors to immediately direct him to the surgical department, where they decided to perform urgent surgery to extract them, according to the sources.
The sources confirmed that the patient’s health condition is stable after the successful operation.
