A member of the Libyan House of Representatives, Abdel Moneim Al-Urfi, indicated that a number of representatives submitted a request to hold a session in Tripoli, but the Council announced two days later that the session would be held in Benghazi.
In a statement to the “Safar” platform, Al-Urfi explained that the invitation to the session mentioned discussing a number of laws without clarifying them, which raised the objection of some representatives who decided to boycott the session.
Al-Urfi considered the reason for the boycott to be illogical, pointing out that the laws up for discussion are known, the most important of which is the budget law
Al-Urfi stressed the importance of adopting a unified budget after unifying the Central Bank, pointing out that this is necessary to avoid overspending and systematic plunder, in addition to exercising control over spending as opposed to relying on 112 spending, which is difficult to monitor, to avoid falling into a financial deficit in the future.
Al-Urfi added that the representatives had requested some time ago to hold a session to provide the Council Presidency with a briefing on the latest developments, especially the results of the meetings of the Acting UN Envoy to Libya, Stephanie Khoury, and the US Special Envoy, Richard Norland, and the results of the security services’ investigation into the kidnapping and absence of Representative Suhail Al-Darsi.
Al-Urfi explained that one of the important laws that will also be discussed is the Law on the Wounded, Martyrs and Missing, which aims to prepare the ground for national reconciliation in Libya.
