The Egyptian Al-Ahly match against the Pyramids Club, which was held within the activities of the 31st round of the Egyptian League, witnessed a controversial incident, whose hero was Moroccan defender Mohamed El-Sheibi.

Al-Sheibi’s actions, after receiving a red card in the 80th minute of the match, sparked the anger of Al-Ahly fans.

German referee Felix Zweier decided to expel El-Sheibi after returning to the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) technique following violent intervention by the Moroccan player on Hussein El-Shahat, the Al-Ahly star.

Al-Shaibi’s reaction to the expulsion was controversial, as he raised his club’s Pyramids shirt, making gestures that could be understood as a challenge as he left the field, which provoked Al-Ahly fans, who responded with booing whistles and angry chants.

The match ended with Al-Ahly winning with a clean goal, raising the team’s score to 66 points in second place in the league table, while Pyramids remained at the top of the league with 68 points. Al-Ahly has five postponed matches, while Pyramids has three postponed matches.

It should be noted that this is not the first time that Al-Shahat and Al-Shahat have been the focus of controversy. In a previous match between the two teams in July 2023, Al-Shahat assaulted Al-Shahat, which sparked widespread controversy and led to Al-Shahat being fined and suspended.

The dispute between the players developed into the legal realm, as Al-Shahat filed a lawsuit against Al-Shahat, accusing him of insulting and beating him. The court ruled in Al-Shahat’s favor to imprison Al-Shahat for a suspended period of one year and prevent him from practicing any administrative activity for a period of five years.
