Al-Ittihad won the Libyan Super Cup after defeating Al-Ahly Tripoli on penalties (6-5), in the match that was held at Tripoli International Stadium on Friday.
The match ended in a positive draw (1-1) after the end of the original time, as Al-Ittihad was able to score first in the 15th minute through a header by striker Saleh Al-Taher.
In the second half, Al-Ahly Tripoli tried to return and provide a better offensive performance, and despite intensive attempts to score a goal, access to the net of the Union goalkeeper was closed, until the 90th minute, where the referee awarded a penalty kick to Al-Ahly Tripoli, which was shot by Mohamed Mounir and cornered it inside the net.
The match moved to the penalty shootout, where Al-Ittihad succeeded in scoring 6 out of 8, while Al-Ahli scored 5, thus winning the Super Cup for the 11th time in its history.
It is noteworthy that this match was the first at Tripoli International Stadium after maintenance and renovation work.
