Sudanese army commander Abdel Fattah al-Burhan promised on Thursday a near victory for the Sudanese army over the Rapid Support Forces and said that “the Sudanese army and people will celebrate victory over the rebel forces against the state,” as he put it.
Speaking from the Sudanese city of Atbara, Burhan reiterated that the armed forces would continue to end this war soon, according to a statement from the Sudanese Armed Forces.
Al-Burhan saluted officers, non-commissioned officers, and artillery soldiers in Atbara, stressing that “the armed forces are capable of deterring anyone who tries to tamper with the capabilities of the Sudanese people and undermine their dignity and sovereignty.”
The head of the Transitional Sovereignty Council in Sudan also praised the efforts of all regular forces in their various formations and units “in confronting the aggression of the Rapid Support Forces,” as he put it.
For about a year, violent and large-scale clashes between the Sudanese army forces and the Rapid Support Forces have continued in different areas in Sudan, as both sides are trying to control vital headquarters, including the Republican Palace, the headquarters of the General Command of the Armed Forces, the Rapid Support Forces Command, and a number of military and civilian airports.
