The newspaper “Al-Arab Al-Londonia” reported that the resurgence of clashes in western Libya highlights the inability of Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh, the outgoing Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity, to maintain security in the country.

The newspaper stressed that the deteriorating security situation threatens the political scene in Libya and hinders the holding of elections, despite efforts to calm the situation and ceasefire, and that the presence of these groups’ weapons poses a major threat to any efforts aimed at bringing peace and achieving stability in the country.

She explained that these clashes between armed groups reflect the fragility of the security situation in western Libya and highlight Al-Dbeibeh’s inability to control security matters and control the unstable situation in the country.

The newspaper reported that Dbeibeh is facing increasing international pressure to push him to relinquish power and make room for the formation of a national government that will prepare for the legislative and presidential elections postponed since December 2021.

The newspaper pointed out that the current security situation makes it difficult to advance towards any political settlement, which reinforces the importance of disarming armed groups to achieve the required stability.
