The UN envoy to Libya, Abdullah Batili, said on his page on the “X” platform after talks with the Russian ambassador to Libya, Haidar Aganin, in the capital, Tripoli, that during the meeting, they reviewed the current political and security situation in the country, and agreed on the urgent need for the Libyan actors to engage in reaching a political settlement in the country.

During the meeting, Batteli and Aganin stressed the importance and necessity of the participation of key Libyan parties in achieving a settlement to hold elections.

As part of his efforts to reconcile, in another meeting with the EU ambassador to Libya, Nicola Orlando, Battelli discussed “the worrying situation prevailing in Libya.”

Last November, Battele presented an initiative to convene a summit between Libya’s main parties to reach agreement on election-related issues.

However, Pateley expressed criticism of some Libyan leaders in his briefing to the Security Council last month, noting that some were not showing sufficient commitment to ending the political stalemate in the country, and that some had set conditions for participation in the proposed five-year meetings.
