The head of the Zuwara Senate, Ghali Tueni, confirmed the escalation of the crisis and its possible repercussions due to the crisis of closing the Ras Jedir border crossing in Libya with Tunisia.
In press statements, al-Tueni accused Libyan Interior Minister Imad al-Trabelsi of “beating the drums of war” from the “Al-Assa area”.
Efforts to manage border crossings are increasing tensions, al-Tuwaini said, especially in the al-Assa area, where Tripoli-affiliated forces are active with the aim of forcibly entering the crossing.
He stressed the need for the criteria for the implementation of the decisions to include all land, sea and airports, including the Ras Jedir crossing, while emphasizing the sovereignty of the Government of National Unity.
Tueni added that no consensus has been reached with the Libyan leadership, expressing his dissatisfaction with the actions of the Libyan interior minister, pointing to the lack of coordination and double standards in the implementation of procedures, which caused the escalation of protests in border areas.
In a related context, a number of traders in the border city of Ben Guerdane organized protests to demand the opening of the border crossing in Ras Jedir, demanding development solutions for thousands of workers in the bilateral trade between Tunisia and Libya.
It should be noted that the Ministry of Interior of the Libyan interim government had announced the closure of the Ras Jedir border crossing after armed clashes, following the arrival of a law enforcement force assigned by the ministry to secure the crossing.
The Libyan army is moving southward and the authorities in Tripoli are ” on alert “
