Young Moroccan Youssef Amzouz revealed horrific details about the “journey of torment” he lived through in Myanmar, after he was kidnapped by human trafficking gangs.
The Moroccan website “Hespress” reported that Amzouz, 26 years old, was the first to reveal what was happening in the detention camps in Myanmar, through his speech on social media, where he highlighted the suffering of dozens of detained Moroccans who are subjected to torture and forced to… Carrying out illegal acts under threat.
Youssef’s suffering began when he saw an advertisement on social networking sites offering a job opportunity in e-commerce in Thailand. After communicating with the mediator, a Moroccan nicknamed Al-Hajj who lives in Turkey, Youssef traveled to Malaysia and then to Thailand, but he did not know that this trip would lead him to… Detained in Myanmar.
Youssef said: “They paid for everything, including paying for the plane, the hotel, and the driver who would take me from the airport to the hotel. I spent one night in the border city of Maesuach in Thailand, and the next day another driver came and took me to another country and took me to Myanmar.”
Youssef added: “I knew from the first moment that the matter was related to illegal practices. I was against the idea of working despite the threats and everything, and I was told that if I brought them new young men, they would pay their price, but I completely refused, so they threatened me that I would either work or die.”
Regarding his method of exit, Youssef took advantage of a rare opportunity to obtain his phone to demand a ransom from his parents, as he published a story on “Instagram” to reveal to the world what was happening, and he said: “I ventured myself to reveal the facts and demanded a ransom from my father of about 13 thousand dollars via digital currency, and it was done.” I will be released after paying the amount.”
Youssef referred to the types of torture that Moroccans were subjected to in detention camps, including the white room, the black room, and the underground red room, explaining that the white room is used to beat detainees who do not make the required profits, while the black room is used for rebels. There, Youssef was exposed to a broken wound. In the leg and shoulder, as for the red room, it is the worst, as it is believed that someone died in it.
After his release, Youssef was transferred to a hotel in Bangkok where he received treatment from a human rights organization and was then visited by representatives of the Moroccan embassy before he could return to his country.
