The New Zealand Department of Environmental Conservation announced that it had received a report about a young man who tried to jump on an orca, after posting a video of the incident on Instagram.

The young man appears in the video trying to execute what officials call a “strong body blow” by jumping on one of the orcas that was swimming quietly with its calf in the water.

The video angered followers, prompting one of them to report the incident to the New Zealand Department of Environmental Conservation.

The administration imposed a fine of 600 New Zealand dollars (equivalent to 365 US dollars) on the young man involved in the incident.

The administration noted that such behavior is not only dangerous for whales but also poses a danger to individuals who try to approach them irresponsibly, and they asked people to report any similar incidents of anyone violating animal safety laws.
