The International Sports Court (CAS) issued a decision banning Tunisian wrestler Amine Al-Qanishi from sporting activity for a period of four years, due to his violation of anti-doping regulations.
With this decision, Al-Qanishi is prohibited from participating in the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, which is a painful blow to the Tunisian delegation.
The Tunisian Africa News Agency, quoting an undisclosed source, confirmed that the reason behind Al-Qanishi’s suspension was his delay in submitting a doping test sample during a surprise visit, and although the test result was negative, the delay in submitting the sample was considered a violation of the approved anti-doping protocol.
The Sports Court had previously issued two rulings in favor of Al-Qanishi, allowing him the opportunity to participate in the qualifying session for the Olympic Games that were held in Alexandria, Egypt, last March, thus ensuring his qualification for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
However, the World Anti-Doping Agency returned the case to the Court of Sport in the comment phase, which ultimately decided to overturn the previous two rulings and issue a decision to ban Al Qanishi.
This decision comes at a time when the Tunisian team is suffering from other blows, as Olympic swimmer Ahmed Ayoub Al-Hafnawi, who won the gold medal in the 400-meter race at the Tokyo 2021 Olympics, and tennis player Ons Jabeur announced that they will not participate in the Paris Olympics due to lack of readiness.
