A member of the Sudanese Sovereignty Council, Yasser Al-Atta, renewed his fierce attack on the UAE, accusing its ruler, Mohammed bin Zayed, of planning to control Sudan’s lands and ports.

Addressing a military rally in the central Sudanese city of Sennar on Tuesday, Atta said there were major reasons for the outbreak of war, the first of which was bin Zayed’s quest to control Sudan’s agricultural lands, seaports on the Red Sea coast and Sudan’s mineral resources.

To achieve these goals, bin Zayed bought the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), ministers in neighboring countries and influential people in international and regional organizations to implement the plan to control Sudan, Atta said.

This is not the first time that Atta has attacked the UAE state and leaders and has previously harshly criticized Abu Dhabi and other countries in Sudan’s regional periphery and held them responsible for providing military support and “mercenaries” to the Rapid Support Forces.

The UAE officially denies supporting any of the parties to Sudan’s military conflict.
