A Spanish pilot was killed after his plane collided with another plane at the Beja Air Festival in Portugal, which witnessed the participation of six planes.

The accident occurred yesterday, Sunday, and also resulted in another Portuguese pilot being slightly injured. He received immediate medical attention before being transferred to the local hospital in the city of Beja, southern Portugal.

The two pilots belonged to the “Yak Stars” air show team and were flying two “Yakovlev Yak-52” aircraft, which are distinguished by their small size and were designed in the Soviet Union specifically for training and air show purposes.

The accident was documented in a video clip circulated on social media platforms, showing the horrific collision that led to one of the two planes crashing outside the borders of the air base, while the second plane was able to land safely on the runway.

The audience attending the air show was not harmed, and investigations are continuing to find out more details about the causes of the accident in this show, which had a wide international presence.

The Baja Festival is held annually and attracts fans of aviation and air shows from all over the world. The “Yak Stars” team, which participated in the last festival, is an aerobatic show team that includes pilots of Spanish and Portuguese nationalities and is considered the largest civilian air show team in southern Europe.
