A report published by the Energy Research Unit (based in Washington) stated that the world’s operating gas production capacity increased by 0.8 percent, or the equivalent of 3.8 million tons, to reach the total of 482.5 million tons annually by the end of 2023, while gas production capacity increased to 483.1 million tons annually by End of February 2024.

The United States came at the top of the list of the largest countries in the world in terms of gas production capacity, with a capacity reaching 91.4 million tons annually until the end of February 2024.

Australia came in second place, with an operating production capacity of 87.6 million tons annually, followed by Qatar with about 77.1 million tons annually, according to data from the International Gas Union.

Malaysia ranked fourth, with a production capacity of 32 million tons annually, ahead of Indonesia in fifth place, by a small margin, with its production capacity reaching 30.3 million tons annually.

Russia ranked sixth in the world, with a working production capacity of 29.1 million tons annually, followed by Algeria in seventh place with about 25.5 million tons annually, then Nigeria in eighth place with about 22.2 million tons annually.

The small Latin country of Trinidad and Tobago ranked ninth in the world, with a production capacity of 14.8 million tons annually, followed by Egypt in 10th place with about 12.2 million tons annually, and the Sultanate of Oman ranked 12th with 10.4 million tons annually, followed by the Sultanate of Brunei with about 7.2 million tons. tons annually, then Papua New Guinea with about 6.9 million tons annually.

While Yemen ranked 15th in the world, with a production capacity of 6.7 million tons annually, ahead of the UAE in 16th place, with a capacity of 5.3 million tons annually.

Angola, Norway, and Peru also ranked in the next three places, with 5.2 million tons, 4.6 million tons, and 4.5 million tons, annually, respectively.

While 4 other African countries (Equatorial Guinea, Mozambique, Cameroon, and Congo) came in last places, with 3.7 million tons, 3.4 million tons, 2.4 million tons, and 0.6 million tons, annually, respectively.
