Sudan’s Transitional Sovereign Council and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) reported on Saturday that they had received an invitation from the Intergovernmental Authority on Development in Africa (IGAD) to attend a summit in Uganda to discuss the situation in Sudan.

The Council rejected the invitation, saying that “there is no need to hold the summit before the implementation of the outcomes of the previous summit” held in Djibouti, while the Rapid Support Forces welcomed it.

In a statement, the Council declared the position of the Government of Sudan, in the following points: “We have been dealing positively with all initiatives, especially the efforts of IGAD to reach peace in Sudan, but the Commission did not commit to implementing the outcomes of the recent summit in Djibouti by meeting with Council President Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan and the commander of the Rapid Support Forces Mohamed Hamdan Daglo (Hemedti).”

The statement continued: “The Commission did not provide a convincing justification for canceling the meeting it called for on December 28, on the pretext that the commander of the Rapid Support Forces was unable to attend for technical reasons, while he was touring a number of IGAD countries on the same date.”

The statement continued: “We reaffirm that what is happening in Sudan is an internal matter, and that our response to regional initiatives does not mean giving up our sovereign right to solve the problem of Sudan by the Sudanese.”

On the other hand, Hemedti responded with a welcome to the IGAD invitation, explaining in a post on the “X” platform: “In line with our firm position in support of a comprehensive peaceful solution, which ends once and for all the wars in Sudan in general, and the April 15 war in particular, I confirmed on Saturday my acceptance of the invitation to attend and participate in the session.”
