British Labor Party leader Keir Starmer, 61, is preparing to take over as prime minister after his party’s huge victory in the legislative elections, ending 14 years of Conservative control.

Starmer previously held the position of State Attorney General and rose in his career from a human rights lawyer to one of the most prominent political figures in Britain.

During his career, he was distinguished by his fierce defense of the working class and his humble origins, as his father was a tool maker, and his mother was a nurse.

Starmer was born on the outskirts of London and grew up in a modest home with three siblings, where his father had a special love for donkeys, and as Starmer once joked, “Whenever one of us left the house he was replaced by a donkey.”

Starmer learned to play the violin and studied law at the universities of Leeds and Oxford, then turned his focus to political and social issues, defending trade unions. He is married to Victoria, who works in the National Health Service and is a father of two children.

Politically, Starmer led a purge within the Labor Party to get rid of anti-Semitism, returning to centrist ideologies after years of far-leftism under Jeremy Corbyn.

He was known for his strong position on Brexit as the party’s spokesman before he succeeded Corbyn, which contributed to renewing the party’s image and restoring its political standing.

The huge loss suffered by the Conservative Party in the local elections on May 2 was the main reason behind the British Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak, announcing early elections, as the ruling party in these elections witnessed its worst loss in 40 years, and came in third place after the Conservative Party.
