Egyptian security forces arrested a man on charges of illegal excavation and excavation inside his home in the Waili area, Cairo, for the purpose of searching for antiquities.
The Waili Police Station Investigation Unit indicated that the accused was digging for antiquities inside his home, where he was arrested red-handed.
A firearm of the type of cartridge and a bullet of the same caliber were seized in the possession of the accused, in addition to tools used in the excavation operations, and a hole three meters deep was found inside one of the rooms of the residence.
The accused confessed to what was attributed to him, indicating that he was keeping the firearm to defend himself during the excavations, and was referred to the Public Prosecution to conduct an investigation.
Egyptian law punishes with imprisonment from three to seven years and a fine of five hundred thousand pounds to one million pounds for anyone who excavates antiquities without a license.
