Local reports indicated that Santosh Lohar, a worker on a railway project in the Rajouli district, was sleeping in his camp earlier last week, when the accident occurred.

The poisonous snake entered Lohar’s tent and bit him. The 35-year-old young man woke up from his sleep and hit the snake with an iron rod and then bit it several times, driven by the myth that biting the snake would neutralize its venom, which led to the snake being mortally wounded and dying instantly.

After the accident, Lohar was taken to Rajouli District Hospital, where he received treatment and recovered quickly, only to be discharged the next day.

Commenting on the incident, Lohar said, “In my village, there is a belief that if a snake bites you, you have to bite it twice to neutralize the poison.”

Many locals questioned the snake’s toxicity, as Lohar showed no serious side effects.

Regarding what to do after a snake bite, the World Health Organization recommends acting quickly and seeking medical help immediately after a snake bite to avoid serious complications.

Poisonous snake bites can cause serious health problems such as paralysis, fatal bleeding, kidney failure, and tissue damage that may sometimes lead to amputation of limbs.

Safety measures after a snake bite include moving away from the snake quickly, remaining calm and steady to reduce the spread of the venom, avoiding cutting the wound or trying to absorb the venom, immobilizing the affected limb and reducing its movement.
