Member of the House of Representatives Tariq al-Ashtar confirmed that “the UN envoy Abdullah Batili failed to find a solution to the Libyan crisis,” demanding his departure quickly so as not to waste time on the Libyans.
Al-Ashtar stated that “Petiev is not serious about reaching a political solution, and I do not believe that he will achieve it based on previous experiences with envoys and the mission’s work method.”
The deputy pointed out that “seriousness and the pursuit of a political solution were possible through the Joint Committee 6+6 formed by the House of Representatives and the State Council,” adding, “If Petiev had sincere intentions, it would have been possible to add some members of the 5+5 military committee to give more inclusivity to the file because this committee is responsible for the security file and unifying the military institution.”
Al-Achtar urged Petiev to “acknowledge the inability to work and his failure to reach a solution,” emphasizing that “his quick departure is better than wasting time for the Libyans in order to reach a solution and hold elections within a clear and specified timeframe.”
