Abdelhadi al-Hawij, the acting foreign minister, said that the Libyan government supports the holding of presidential and parliamentary elections, while Abdelhamid Dbeibeh relies on military force to disrupt them.
Al-Hawij explained in televised statements carried by “Libya 24 News” that the Dbeibeh government is obstructing the holding of elections and pushing the country towards resorting to force instead of the “Democratic Fund.”
He pointed out that the Libyan government seeks to achieve the will of the Libyan people and renew the legitimacy of all institutions, while the forces controlling the government in Tripoli reject this.
Al-Huwaij stressed that the Libyan government is committed to elections as a way to achieve stability and security, and that it knows that focusing on elections will divert attention to real issues such as reconstruction and development.
He added that all international attempts to resolve the Libyan crisis failed because they did not focus on the Libyan dimension in the negotiations, stressing that the solution must be Libya.
The Libyan minister pointed out that any path that does not take into account these facts will not succeed, and that national reconciliation must be inclusive, based on partnership and cooperation, not competition and conflict.
Al-Hawij said that reconciliation is not just an option, but a necessity, and that any settlement that does not take into account these aspects is doomed to failure like previous attempts.
It is noteworthy that in November 2021, the parties participating in the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum reached the date of the presidential and legislative elections on December 24, 2021, under the auspices of the United Nations, but due to political conflicts in the country in addition to the law organizing the elections, they were postponed indefinitely.
