Libya’s representative to the International Criminal and Justice Courts, Ahmed Al-Juhani, confirmed that the latter accepted Libya’s request to join the case, pending the submission of written oral arguments on July 10, which will be fully presented to the judges.
He said in a press statement that Libya joined South Africa, in exchange for financial support and defense lawyers assigned to the Israeli side, pointing out that the court accepted the joining of other countries, the most recent of which was Mexico.
Al-Jahani stated that the fear of the countries supporting Israel lies in the International Court of Justice issuing a ruling against it, as it is directly affiliated with the United Nations, unlike the International Criminal Court, of which most countries are not a member, and therefore are not bound by any rulings or decisions by it.
Al-Jahani added that the International Court of Justice has the decision-making authority to put countries supporting Israel in an embarrassing position if a ruling is issued to stop the military attack.
He said that there are two rulings issued by the two courts against Israel, the first of which relates to an immediate ceasefire and genocide in the Gaza Strip and allowing the delivery of aid, and the other relates to arrest warrants against Israeli officials.
Al-Jahani confirmed that arrest warrants have not yet been issued by the International Criminal Court, noting that Prosecutor Karim Khan asked the court’s pre-trial chamber to issue arrest warrants against Netanyahu and his defense minister.
Regarding the genocide in Rafah, Al-Jehani described the attack carried out by Israel as “a systematic genocide documented with evidence,” adding that documenting audio and video evidence proves the crimes, without any need for a fact-finding committee to work on revealing the validity of the genocide, expecting that arrest warrants will be issued against the wanted persons. .
He expressed his hopes that international justice would issue a ruling against crimes and persons, given that there is no appeal in its rulings, as it is final, and the United Nations is committed to it in accordance with the agreements.
Al-Jahani stated that the Public Prosecutor’s request to the court to issue arrest warrants may help the International Court of Justice rule more quickly, especially with regard to genocide crimes.
Earlier, Libya’s announcement to submit a request to intervene in the case filed by South Africa against the crimes of genocide committed by Israel was widely welcomed and highly appreciated, as it coincides with the escalation of the Israeli attack and incursion into the areas of the south, north and center of the Gaza Strip.
The spokeswoman for the Libyan Presidential Council, Najwa Wahiba, said on her account on the Israeli occupation state.”
Libya considered that its decision to request joining the cause comes based on Israel’s actions, which “are considered genocide because they aim to eliminate the Palestinians as a national, racial, and ethnic group in the Gaza Strip.”
