A number of displaced Sudanese escaped death after their car overturned in the sand dunes near the Libyan-Sudanese border. The accident resulted in the injury of about 28 people, 13 of whom are in critical condition.
The Director of the Ambulance and Emergency Service Office in Kufra, Ibrahim Bel Hassan, stated that the accident occurred when one of the two cars carrying 35 displaced people overturned on their way from Sudan to Libya.
Belhassan explained that action was taken immediately after receiving the report, as ambulance and emergency teams crossed a distance of 700 kilometers back and forth in the heart of the desert south of Kufra, near Jabal Al-Owainat, to reach the site of the accident.
Belhassan also stated that first aid was provided to the injured at the site, who suffered various fractures and burns, before they were transferred to the Kufra Teaching Hospital to receive the necessary treatments and examinations.
A report published by the British magazine “Middle East Monitor” states that nearly 40,000 people from Sudan have been displaced to Libya since the outbreak of armed clashes, and additional waves of displaced people have continued to flow, and their numbers are estimated to have exceeded 50,000.
The displaced Sudanese in southern Libya suffer from a severe shortage of food, medicine, and potable water, and face difficult conditions in light of the scarcity of resources and the weak capabilities of the region.
