The Algerian state of Bejaia witnessed a heinous crime that angered the entire country, as a man slaughtered his wife at her workplace in front of employees and citizens.
The details of the crime go back to when the victim, a woman and mother of three children, returned from a vacation in her family home. Upon her return, her husband refused to let her resume work, and threatened to slaughter her if she did not respond to his wishes. However, the victim decided to return to her work in the Civil Status Department in the municipality of Aokas.
On the same morning, the victim called the police to report the threats she had received from her husband, and a security force moved to the municipality to investigate the situation.
At two o’clock in the afternoon, the husband stormed the municipality, stabbed his wife three times in the stomach and twice in the neck, and slaughtered her in front of everyone, which sparked a state of panic and fear.
The victim was transferred to the recovery department, where she is between life and death.
Following the crime, municipal workers and residents of the area organized protests denouncing the violence, raising slogans such as “Violence has no place in our society” and “We are all Malika,” in solidarity with the victim.
