Professor of Earth Sciences at the University of Benghazi, Fares Fathi, issued a strong warning about the possibility of thunderstorms and floods during the upcoming fall semester.
Fathi pointed out that these natural phenomena may cause serious damage if they are not addressed immediately and effectively.
The expert stressed the importance of providing monitoring devices for the rise in dam water levels and the necessity of performing their periodic maintenance and explained that this contributes to reducing the risk of floods affecting neighboring areas.
In the context of preparations to confront potential disasters, Fathi called for increasing awareness of the potential dangers of floods and the need to educate residents about the necessary preventive measures.
At the conclusion of his statements, Professor Fares Fathi stressed the importance of good preparation and advance planning to confront these harsh weather conditions, in order to protect human lives and limit the damage resulting from potential natural disasters.
These warnings come after the massive damage caused to the city of Derna as a result of the collapse of two ancient dams due to heavy rains during Storm Daniel. Estimates showed that the material damage resulting from this disaster amounted to about 1.65 billion dollars.
