The Minister of Tourism and Antiquities in the Libyan government assigned by Parliament, Ali Qalama, conducted a field tour of the “Qasr Libya” archaeological castle in the municipality of Al-Sahel in Jabal Al-Akhdar, one of the most prominent archaeological and tourist sites in the country.
The visit aimed to assess the condition of the site and review its historical and cultural importance and compare that with the proposals submitted to the Ministry’s office regarding the maintenance and restoration of these archaeological landmarks.
The Minister stressed the importance of strengthening the tourism infrastructure and preserving Libya’s archaeological and cultural heritage.
The Minister called on the specialized organizations accredited by the Libyan government to provide support and assistance to preserve these archaeological landmarks, as part of the Ministry’s efforts to promote tourism and preserve cultural heritage in Libya.
These efforts come within a comprehensive strategy to develop the tourism sector and highlight Libya as a distinguished historical and tourist destination at the regional and international levels.
It is noteworthy that the city of Qasr Libya contains approximately 25 archaeological sites and a historical archive rich in archaeological inscriptions and manuscripts, reflecting the successive civilizations in the region since the Greek era in the fourth century BC, where the Byzantines later used the site and called it Olympia, which highlights the historical continuity of the site and its cultural importance.
