Danish chef Rasmus Monk is planning a new culinary challenge as he seeks to hold the first luxury banquet in space in 2025.
Alchemist, a two-star restaurant in the Michelin Restaurant Guide, said: “The expedition will take place aboard Spice Perspective’s Neptune spacecraft, where six passengers will redefine the art of gastronomy by enjoying a meal of a lifetime while watching the sun rise over the curve of our planet.”
The institution is part of the new Danish gastronomy scene, which did not exist two decades ago and has been praised worldwide for its many creations.
For $495,000, the six tourists are preparing to take part in a unique experience, where they will embark on a six-hour expedition aboard a pressurized space capsule, which will rise to the stratosphere, 30 kilometers above sea level thanks to the hydrogen-powered Spice Balloon balloon.
Chef Rasmus Monk, 32, known for his passion for space, will be among the participants in this unique flight, promising to make a menu inspired by “the role of space exploration during the past six decades of human history”.
Alchemist, which ranked fifth in World’s Best 50 Restaurants Guide for 2023, said many items will be prepared in the kitchen of the ship from which the capsule will start.
A key prohibition was imposed during this flight, which is not to burn food on a wood fire, which requires designing the menu in an innovative way that suits space conditions.
