Clayton Lima, former coach of the Brazilian women’s national football team, has resigned as a coach of Santos after protests from female players over accusations of harassment.

The players filed harassment charges against Lima, 49, last September, leading to his resignation from his post for the time being.

The resignation was accepted by Brazilian club Santos, who issued a statement affirming his respect for Lima’s decision and expressing support for the protection and integrity of his family.

At the same time, there were photos taken of the players showing their protest directly, with some covering their mouths, others raising their shirts to express their displeasure with the situation.

It was confirmed in the statement issued by the club that Lima was the target of criticism and threats, which made him feel pressure and make the decision to resign.

Lima coached the Santos women’s team three times (1999-2010, 2022-2023, and then this year), leading them to the domestic title in 2007 and 2009.
