A Brazilian court sentenced Cat Torres, an “Instagram” influencer and former “mistress” of Hollywood star Leonardo DiCaprio, to 8 years in prison, on charges of human trafficking and enslavement.
Kat moved from living in the slums of Brazil to a luxurious life. She was considered an inspiring success story, especially after her name was linked to DiCaprio in 2013, when she was seen with him at many parties, and it was rumored that they dated for a few months when she was 24 years old.
Investigations conducted by the “BBC” revealed that Kat, 34 years old, exploited her followers on social media and made them false promises of money and a better life, exploiting their faith and religious beliefs to attract and sexually exploit them during her period of illegal residence in Austin, Texas.
Kat promoted herself as a “spiritual teacher” and attracted her victims through the use of faith and religious beliefs.
She was able to work as an actress and model in the United States, and attracted millions of followers on “Instagram”, which allowed her to access the luxurious life she enjoyed for a while in Los Angeles.
The disappearance of two Brazilian women, Desiree Freitas and Leticia Maia, in 2022 led to an FBI search for them across the United States.
They were found to be living with Cat, who was responsible for transporting them from Brazil to the United States to sexually exploit them and treat them in humiliating ways.
Catt was arrested in Maine and deported to Brazil, where she was arrested in November 2022. She was convicted on June 28 in Rio de Janeiro and is currently residing in a women’s prison in Pango, west of Rio de Janeiro.
Desiree Freitas, one of the victims, reported that Kat forced her into a humiliating routine between April and November 2022, including working at a nightclub and grueling shifts lasting more than 13 hours without a break.
Desiree also confirmed that Kat recruited other young women, including minors, with the promise of improving their quality of life.
The São Paulo Public Prosecutor’s Office received other similar complaints against Kat, and these cases were added to the investigation conducted by the Federal Police in the Federal Court in Rio de Janeiro.
