Six people were killed in Algeria on Thursday, due to floods caused by heavy rains that fell in several governorates in the west of the country.
According to a statement issued by the Civil Protection Services in Algeria, the competent authorities received calls on Wednesday night reporting the disappearance of people who were swept away by the floods.
The statement stated that the bodies of five people were found in a taxi that was swept away by the waters of Wadi Al-Ghassoul in Al-Bayadh Governorate, west of the country.
In a later statement, the General Directorate of Civil Defense announced the discovery of the body of a 59-year-old person who was swept away by torrential rains in the valley of the Sabdou municipality in Tlemcen Governorate.
The directorate confirmed that it had deployed dozens of crews, diving teams, and ambulances to deal with the current conditions, adding that it was continuing its efforts to search for survivors and deal with the repercussions of the floods.
On Tuesday, Civil Defense announced the death of 6 people within 24 hours as a result of floods that struck several states in Algeria.
About a week ago, the Civil Defense announced the death of 3 people, including a 7-year-old child, as a result of floods that struck the states of Tipaza, west of the capital and Guelma (east of the country).
Thus, the death toll from floods in Algeria has risen to 15 since the start of the weather fluctuations at the end of last May, which highlights the challenges the country faces in dealing with natural disasters and climate fluctuations.
