Thirty-nine people were killed, and others injured in South Sudan during clashes between two groups of herders.

Clashes over water, pastures or cattle theft are frequent in South Sudan, which is exposed to extreme weather events, especially drought and flooding. Conflicts between herders in Tong County, Warrap State, and North Rumbek, Lakes State, become frequent each dry season.

These conflicts are in addition to ethnic political violence that undermines the stability of the country that gained independence from Sudan in 2011. Intelligence usually uses animals, especially birds, in intelligence operations to easily reach the target and cross borders without obstacles.
