The final report of the investigation into the contaminated blood that killed around 3,000 people between the seventies and early nineties in Britain will be released soon.

Contaminated blood donated in the United States has infected more than 30,000 patients with hepatitis C and HIV.

The Guardian newspaper predicted that the investigation would recommend the prosecution of current and former NHS officials.

The investigation into the case began during Theresa May’s 2017 premiership and is presided over by former judge Sir Brian Langstaff.

The Treasury is expected to announce a compensation package estimated at around £10bn.

The case, known as the “contaminated blood scandal”, is the worst treatment disaster in the UK’s National Health Service (NHS) history since its inception in 1948, and two main groups have been affected: hemophilia patients and those who have undergone postpartum blood transfusions, surgery and other treatments.
