An Algerian court has sentenced an expatriate national to 20 years in prison in absentia after he threatened in a social media post to blow up the Algerian consulate in Libya.
The Criminal Court of First Instance in Casablanca announced the verdict after the defendant, known as “B.L. Samir”, was convicted of the felony of engaging abroad in a terrorist and subversive organization, with the aim of harming the interests of Algeria, according to Algerian channel “Ennahar”.
The facts of the case date back to February 16, 2023, when the security authorities received a correspondence containing an electronic post on a Facebook group called “Algerian expatriates in the State of Libya”.
In this publication, the accused threatened to blow up the Algerian consulate in Libya with the phrase “the consulate has an explosive belt”, and the defendant was identified, and after investigations with his brother, it was found that he left Algeria for Libya and stayed with his uncle and has not entered the country since then.
