The Shiroro region of the Nigerian state of Niger witnessed a bloody attack that killed 20 people, and many others were injured following an attack launched by the extremist group “Boko Haram.”
The attack took place yesterday, Monday, and was condemned by media sources citing official authorities, noting that the extremist group directly targeted civilians.
This incident comes after the local authorities announced, at the end of last month, that eight people had been killed and about 150 others had been kidnapped in an armed attack on the village of Monya in the center of the country.
The northwestern, northeastern and central regions of Nigeria witness frequent mass kidnappings targeting isolated villages for the purpose of obtaining ransom.
Boko Haram was founded in 2002 in Borno State in northern Nigeria, under the leadership of Muhammad Yusuf. The group began its actual operations in 2004 after moving to Yobe State on the border with Niger, where it began its operations against Nigerian security and civil institutions.
