The Moroccan security authorities were able to thwart an attempt to smuggle drugs across international borders and seized more than 18 tons of the drug “Shera” in Casablanca.
The operation took place in the early hours of Monday morning in the Sidi Rahal beach area, where five people were arrested red-handed while trying to transport the seized drugs on board a large truck designated for international transport. They were preparing to load the shipment onto three fast rubber boats to smuggle it across the sea.
During inspections and combing operations, the authorities found a number of equipment used in smuggling operations, including fuel containers, powerful marine engines, and air pumps, in addition to a satellite phone.
The five detainees were kept under theoretical guard for investigation, based on the directives of the competent Public Prosecution. This security strike reinforces ongoing efforts to combat international smuggling networks targeting the Kingdom of Morocco.
On the first day of the year 2024, the Moroccan authorities carried out a joint operation between National Security and Customs personnel at the Guerguerat border crossing, south of the city of Dakhla, which resulted in thwarting the smuggling of a large shipment of hard drugs and seizing 362 kilograms and 950 grams of cocaine.
