18 Moroccan nationals who were detained by international human trafficking gangs in Myanmar have been released, through the efforts of their families, lobbyists in Thailand, non-governmental organizations and local armed groups.

The liberated citizens were detained in harsh conditions and were transferred to safe areas in Thailand accompanied by a Thai non-governmental association.

This release brings the number of Moroccans liberated from the grip of these gangs in Myanmar to 25 people, 7 of whom had previously returned to Morocco.

In a related context, the efforts of the Committee of Families of Victims of Human Trafficking contributed to the release of a Yemeni citizen who had been detained for about two years.

It is noteworthy that some Moroccan families paid financial ransoms ranging between 6,000 and 10,000 US dollars to release their loved ones.

Estimates vary about the number of Moroccans detained in Myanmar, as some sources indicate that there are about 100 Moroccans detained, while other sources indicate that the number is less than 50.
