The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Plenipotentiary of the Libyan Government, Abdelhadi Al-Hawij, received at the Ministry’s headquarters in Benghazi, the Ambassador and Director General of Common Services at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Tunisians Abroad, Seif Allah bin Mohamed Rajab and his accompanying delegation.

During the meeting, they discussed strengthening bilateral relations and accelerating the procedures for opening the Tunisian consulate in Benghazi, which is expected to take place next March.

Al-Hawij congratulated the delegation on these steps, which will move the wheel of economic, trade and investment exchange between the two countries, and contribute to facilitating the movement of Tunisian workers to Libya.

According to statistics reported by Tunisian National Guard spokesman Hossam Eddine Jebali to AFP earlier, as of November 2023, the Guard intercepted 69,963 migrants, compared to 31,297 during the same period in 2022.

According to the International Organization for Migration, more than 2,270 people died in 2023 in the central Mediterranean while trying to reach European shores illegally, a 60% increase from the previous year.
