At least 11 people, mostly students, died in a collision in Indonesia, authorities announced on Sunday.
A bus collided with several cars and motorcycles after apparently malfunctioning its brakes in Indonesia’s West Java province, killing 11 people, mostly students, and injuring dozens more, officials said.
West Java police spokesman Jules Abraham Abst said the bus, carrying 61 students and teachers, was heading back to a high school in Depok outside the capital Jakarta late Saturday from the mountain resort area of Bandung after the graduation ceremony.
He said the car spiraled out of control on a ramp and crossed lanes, colliding with several cars and motorcycles before hitting an electricity pole.
Abast explained that nine people died at the scene and two others later died at the hospital, including a teacher and a local motorist.
Another 53 people were taken to hospital with injuries, some in critical condition, he said.
