The Tala delegation of Kasserine Governorate, central-western Tunisia, will host the Barbary Horse Festival from 9 to 12 May 2024 after a hiatus of nineteen years.
First founded in 1915, the Barbary Horse Festival saw a brief comeback in 1995 before being halted again in 2005.
It was supposed to be revived in November 2023, but was postponed to May 2024 in solidarity with the Palestinian people and in response to the repercussions resulting from the situation in the Palestinian territories.
The festival program includes performances including equestrian and shooting competitions, as well as artistic events, development workshops and educational seminars.
These events aim to highlight the historical and cultural value of the Barbary horse, while offering visitors the opportunity to discover the beauty of this type of horse.
The Barbary horse is an ancient breed of horse originating in North Africa in areas extending from Libya to Mauritania, and is famous for its strength and endurance, and is used in horsemanship and warfare, and has a relatively long and huge face, a medium-length neck, and hard organs such as the shoulder and nail.
It also has amazing endurance and speed for short distances, ideal for slopes and mountains, and withstands difficult conditions such as drought and water shortages.
