The Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced that the Tripoli International Stadium will not be accredited to receive continental matches, after an evaluation visit by a delegation from the Confederation to the Libyan capital.

The Libyan Football Association received recommendations from CAF, most of which focused on security issues, as a result of riots in the derby match within the Libyan Super Cup, which saw the federation win the cup on penalties.

A delegation from the FIFA’s Security and Safety Committee, including Mustapha Slaoui from Morocco and Seni Ababacar from Senegal, participated in the second evaluation round of the Tripoli Stadium.

Libya has made progress towards lifting the ban on its stadiums since 2011, after CAF announced in March 2021 that the ban had been partially lifted, allowing the Benina Martyrs Stadium in Benghazi to host international matches.

It is noteworthy that Tripoli Stadium was rehabilitated and officially opened on the eighth of last March with a major exhibition event that brought together the stars of Libya and the legends of Milan and Africa.
