Nigerian Victor Osimhen claimed respective African Footballer of the Year honours on Monday (11 December) at the annual Confederation of African Football (CAF) Awards celebration, held this year in Marrakech, Morocco.
The awards for Oshoala and Osimhen capped the biggest night in African football to close out 2023, with a host of other awards handed out to the top performers – both individuals and teams – from the continent.
It’s a sparkling sixth win for Oshoala in the category, while Osimhen claimed the honour for a first time in his career. Osimhen is the first Nigerian man to claim the prize since Nwankwo Kanu in 1999.
Nigeria was named the National Team of the Year for the women, while Morocco was given the same nod on the men’s side.
