A widely circulated video clip documented a group of Libyans chanting slogans praising Colonel Muammar Gaddafi inside the Republic Bank in Tarhuna.
The video shows Libyans waiting in long lines to withdraw cash before Eid al-Adha, in light of the scarcity of liquidity that the country is witnessing.
Banks across Libya are witnessing noticeable congestion due to the financial difficulties experienced by the population, including delayed salary payments and the economic recession that has cast a shadow on local markets.
The Italian agency “Nova”, which commented on the video, indicated that Libyans remember with nostalgia the era of Gaddafi, when such difficult economic conditions did not exist.
The video begins with a person wearing a military uniform chanting, “Allah, Muammar, Libya, only,” and soon many attendees join him in chanting.
It is noteworthy that the liquidity crisis led to an increase in currency and cash transactions in the markets by 10%, with jumps in the price of the dollar in the parallel market.
