Minister of State for Women’s Affairs Houria al-Tarmal revealed that 70% of the Libyan workforce is women.

In a speech during the 68th session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women in New York, Al-Tarmal noted the role of women in the national economy, explaining that a program has been completed to provide employment and education opportunities, and the number of beneficiaries reached 1.33 million from various regions of Libya.

Al-Tarmal pointed to the launch of an exhibition to empower women economically, in accordance with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and to create a supportive environment for women’s professional success.

The Libyan minister also pointed out that social justice issues are a priority in the Government of National Unity, expressing her thanks to all countries that stood in solidarity with Libya following Hurricane Daniel, which hit Derna, of which women and girls were the biggest victims.
